No, I’m not going anywhere. The subject line is inspired by this nine-minute trailer for the AMC remake of The Prisoner, which will air in November. It looks awesome–the original seen through new eyes. It reminds me of Life on Mars crossed with Burn Notice. Sir Ian McKellan and Jim Caviezel will chew up the scenery in this existential miniseries.
Still working on recreating the Southern Gothic short story I’ve been working on for the past couple of days. I don’t think I’ve ever completely revamped a story so extensively before. For a while I was toying with dropping in a bunch of Walter Mitty allusions, but the first one seemed so jarring on re-read that I’ve given that up as a failed effect. I should be able to get to the end of the first draft by tomorrow, assuming I don’t get bogged down revising the first section, which is what I mostly did today.
For today’s chuckle, check out this YouTube video in which William Shatner Reads Sarah Palin Farewell Speech as if it were a prose poem.
The Closer was okay last night, though I twigged to Tom Skerritt pretty much from the beginning. Mostly it was an interesting look at how the cops have to investigate even the deaths of despicable people. I wonder if they’re setting us up for another confrontation between Brenda and her nemesis at the end of the season.
Still reading Sarah Langan’s Audrey’s Door. OCD has become a fairly common trope in modern fiction, but I’ve rarely seen it set up as well as in this book. Once we find out Audrey’s history, we’re left amazed that she is functional at all. The best haunted house stories are about haunted people, and this is certainly one of them. One interesting aspect is that Audrey isn’t trapped in this strange crooked house–she can come and go at will. However, it is exerting an influence on her, and it seems to have designs upon her. Pun intended.
